FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At Glenfield College, we want students to maintain a broad base of education for as long as possible, extending and challenging themselves with the courses that they choose, and to leave their pathways open for as long as possible.
We want students to have a good range of subjects right through to Year 12 with Year 13 being the only year where a reasonable degree of specialisation can occur and even then, only with good reason. We want students to choose courses that challenge them to work hard to succeed and which will bring greater rewards beyond school than a course which is too easy to succeed at. In short, our students must aim high. We also want to ensure that no course and career pathway, that is even a remote possibility for any student, is closed off by an inappropriate course selection.
At Glenfield College, we expect all students to be seriously attempting to pass all Standards that are on offer in each course that they take. We will not tolerate students stopping work and ignoring assessments because they think that they already have sufficient credits in that subject. We stress to students that they must attempt the full course and all assessments and that since they are competing with students not just from throughout New Zealand but worldwide, for places on courses and careers beyond school, they need all the Credits possible on their Record of Learning and quality ones at that. Our students need to be aiming for Excellence and Merit endorsements, not accepting Achieved as good enough.
We want our students to seize every opportunity that a quality secondary school education provides and position themselves as well as possible to take the opportunities that lie ahead of them beyond school.
