“The Glenfield College Art Department seeks to promote an appreciation of New Zealand and international art. Our emphasis is on the fundamental skills of drawing, painting and image generation. We achieve this by providing a wide range of challenging and enjoyable activities, all within a safe and positive environment, providing students with the opportunity to explore, generate, shape and communicate their ideas in creative ways. Their exposure, and response, to contemporary work also instils within them an appreciation and critical awareness of artefacts in a societal context.”
Aims of the Glenfield College Art Department
1. To develop a practical knowledge of forms, processes, techniques, media, technologies, elements and principles.
2. To develop ideas in the arts, where students learn to initiate, develop, refine and resolve ideas.
3. To communicate and interpret ideas in the context of the visual arts.
4. To understand the arts in social, cultural, past and present contexts.
