Our Mission Statement
The Glenfield College Social Sciences Department seeks to engage students in critically analyzing societal issues, and to develop their depth of understanding the study of human behaviour. This is gained through educating the students in a wide range of topics covering issues from the past, the present, and into the future. These topics have significance to people in their every-day participation as citizens and members of the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider world.
Aims of the Glenfield College Social Sciences Department
These aims are based on the needs of students and the National Curriculum statements.
1. To examine how people participate in society and how society operates.
2. To gain the knowledge, skills and experience to understand, contribute to and participate in the communities in which they live and work.
3. To explore the unique nature of New Zealand society and its bicultural heritage.
4. To encourage students to learn how societies work and how they can participate in and take social action as critical, active, informed and responsible citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider world.
