Facilities

We believe in maintaining our property in the best possible condition, so that our students can enjoy learning in a welcoming and comfortable environment.  We regularly repaint our classrooms, and ensure that almost all are carpeted where practical.  All rooms have access points allowing both internet and intranet access, while many have pods of computers in them.  Nearly every classroom has access to a data projector, allowing our laptop equipped staff members to bring the benefits of modern technology, and the full resources of the internet, to the classroom.  Interactive whiteboards aid suitably skilled staff members in maximizing their potential when teaching others, and more are being purchased.

Computer Rooms

To ensure the students maximum access to powerful computing technology we have eight computer rooms in the school; in addition to pods of computers in many classrooms and the library.  The Majority of the rooms are bookable by staff members to take their classes to, while some are used for our timetabled classes in Computing, Design and Photography.  Currently we have one computer for almost every two students, giving our teachers excellent  support in our learning programmes.

Theatre (The Kaipatiki Theatre)

We have a fully functional purpose-built theatre at Glenfield College.  It features a large rising stage, tiered seating, lighting gantry, walk-in sound and lighting control centre, multi-channel sound system, green room, changing rooms, costume storage and lights.  The students involved in our productions and performances at Glenfield College have the very best facilities to learn in.

Cafeteria

We have a fully serviced cafeteria for students, able to seat about 200 students.  It functions as an excellent social gathering space, and provides protection from the elements during winter.

Technology Block

Our technology block was completely rebuilt in July 2008, allowing us to include brand new facilities and excellent improvements.  The block has high visibility throughout with internal glass walls, increasing safety by offering greater visibility of our students.  There are three machine or processing areas for Wood, Metal, Fabrics and Plastics along with attendant theory and design rooms for Wood, Metal and Fabric.  These are in addition to specialist rooms for Automotive (including a fully operational service bay), Boat Building, Fabric, Graphics, Computing, Robotics, Food Technology ( including a fully serviced Restaurant ) and the staff work area.

Student Services Area

Student Services are all located in one building containing excellent, comfortable, spacious facilities.  Our Health Centre includes a Physiotherapist’s room and a Doctors consulting room, in addition we have a suite of Counselling rooms, and a Careers and Gateway suite.  These areas have convenient shared kitchen and toilet facilities, while being located very close to the Deans’ offices.

Library

We have a well stocked library available to our students both during and after the school day.  There is a pod of 16 computer terminals within the Library for student use.  Students are encouraged to use the library beyond the timetabled day as a resource base and work centre.  Staff are available at the library several nights a week, after school, to help students with Maths, English and other subjects.

Gymnasium

We have a large gymnasium with a mezzanine viewing area, separate exercise room, weights room and two sets of changing rooms available.

Playing Fields

Our main playing fields are fully drained to provide an excellent, dry surface all year round. PE classes, sports teams and students during the school breaks, enjoy the benefits of these all season fields.

Outdoor Courts

We have a large Astroturf area covering four tennis courts, four netball courts and a small hockey turf to support our winter and summer sports programmes; as well as to provide a high quality all-weather PE facility and student recreation facility during school breaks.  On the adjacent large asphalt area we have six outdoor basketball hoops, to keep all our basketball enthusiasts happy, as well as space for a further tennis court and other ball games.
